7th Semester Review

Well I just finished my 7th semester of university like a while ago!!! I actually already started my 8th semester, so I thought I would review my 7th one before I get like way too far into my 8th semester lol. I enjoyed my winter break, being able to sleep late and wake up late. I had so much more free time and it was so relaxing! The semester was kinda heavy for me, I mean I had three semester long projects, I was pretty much always working on something!! Luckily though I was able to mix two of them into one!

Okay so I actually liked all of my classes this semester, the classes I had for this semester were:

  • Web development and Layout II
  • Web Design III
  • Image Branding
  • 3D modeling
  • Digital Marketing
  • Post Production and Visual Effects

Web Development and Layout II

I was disappointed with this class last semester as it was more about how to launch a website and not maintaining a website. Well this semester was much better, not only did we learn how to maintain a website but also the importance of layouts and testing. I even learned a bit of javascript!! Our professor told us how important it is to check everything about the website, from multiple screen sizes and the links, just to make sure that everything works. It's the same professor I had last semester for my GUI and UX design class. I like this professor as he always told me and my classmates to have more confidence in not only ourselves, but also the projects we make. Our semester long project was to find a client and offer to make them a website. I offered my auntie if I could make a website for her small handcraft jewellery business and she said yes, so that's what I based my project on. I wish I could show you but I value the fact that I'm pretty much anonymous online, that you can't link this to my real name or life, so for that reason I won't show you.

Image Branding

This was probably one of the most stressful class for me. Our project for this was to make our own personal brand. We had to choose what we want our brand to be about, basically choose what we want to dedicate ourselves to. I obviously chose my brand to be about my illustrations and art. I wish I could share the name of it but it's a pun with my name in it so I won't. Then with our brand we had to make a document pretty much explaining our brand and ourselves. The project lasted for two months. At the end, we had to present ourselves to the class. With a little stand showing off what our brand is about. The teacher was grading everything about our presentations, from how we spoke and how we moved, even how we dressed!!! Worst part is that I was first… I got so nervous, especially since well I had to present in Spanish, which is my second language. Although the presentation wasn't a big part of the grade, I still feel so disappointed in myself, I like only got halfway through my presentation as we only got 10 minutes and I talked slowly. Our final project was to make a brand, and then give it two visual identity proposals. I chose to make an interior design brand named Oakly. One that is more casual, intended for middle class incomes. While the other one is all about elegance, intended for high class incomes. Here's a picture featuring both logos.

3D Modeling

While I had a lot of fun with this class, it really wasn't what I was expecting. We used a program called Adobe 3D Stager, which is more used for scene composition and rendering. So we basically just found free 3D models online, put textures on them and then also added some lighting. So ya it was fun but not exactly 3D modeling. My final project for the class was to make a little image brand identity document, that the professor assigned to us at random. She just took little pieces of paper and wrote a number. Then she called us to her desk one by one to choose a piece of paper. Then she told us what type of brand we had to make depending on our number. I actually got a different one at first, I think it was makeup??? I can’t really remember but I ended up trading it to another classmate of mine as she wanted mine, because the professor allowed it as long as it was mutual. In the end I got interior design. Yeah, I basically combined this one with my image branding class lol. I was actually gonna do a different brand on both classes but I got an idea from another classmate of mine who was combining hers. In the document I had to make some promo images, with 3D models that we found. Here are two I want to share:

Digital Marketing

This was probably the second most stressful class for me, our semester long project was to find a small business to do a social media campaign for. I basically learned how to use social media for marketing research, the importance of social media as a platform for marketing. For this project I teamed up with 2 of my friends. We decided to help my dad's small business, in which we had to make social media posts and videos. At the end of the semester, we had to make a presentation showing the results of our social media campaign. I say we did pretty well!

Post Production and Visual Effects

Another video editing class and ima be honest, I mostly used this class to catch up on other projects. Seeing as the professor is very chill, he honestly doesn't like teach you, but he does introduces you to other tools you can use/learn. Like for example final cut pro, he will like show you the basics and then lets you explore the program. He mostly just asks for a video at the end of each term for our grade, seeing as I had to make videos in my digital marketing class, I just turned in one of those.

I finally ended the semester with a little gala party that my school hosts every year at the end of November, I normally don't go but this time my friends wanted to go so I decided to with them. I'm glad I did because I saw a childhood friend of mine who I hadn't seen since 2020! The party itself was okay, we had food served at our table and then we went to dance at the dance floor. I arrived home at like 2am!

It was honestly a pretty good semester, I will graduated this year so yeah, I hope to get a job in web design since I love doing that type of stuff. Here holds to the what the future will offer!
